The Scarab mini trencher is a straight-line trenching machine, powered by a four-stroke Briggs & Stratton 6,5 HP engine, with a 6:1 reduction gearbox. The tubular frame and cutter guard are powder coated after being electro plated, to minimise the possibility of rust. This machine is capable of cutting a trench 65mm wide, to a depth of 300mm, at a speed, dependant on the soil conditions, of up to 3 1/2 metres per minute. The unique design ensures that engine remains horizontal irrespective of the depth of the trench, to prevent oil starvation.
The Scarab Trencher is ideal for builders, contractors, electricians, landscapers, plumbers, farmers, and the DIY field. The tungsten tipped cutters will cut through 100mm roots, and a torque limiter prevents engine damage should the cutters encounter rock or other impassable objects, by allowing the cutting disc to slip if the load becomes excessive. A scale indicates the depth of the trench, and a safety switch stops the engine if the handlebar is released, preventing injury.
The soil from the trench is deposited on the right hand side of the machine, making back-filling easy, and the light weight, makes loading and un-loading, a one man job. Always check with the local authorities regarding the existance of underground cables and pipes before starting to dig trenches!
It should be noted however, that the Scarab Trencher is designed for digging reasonably soft material and not for cutting concrete, rock, or roadways. For this type of work, a heavy duty chain type trencher is better suited, but expect to pay about 15 times more than the cost of the Scarab!
